Sassi Cookie Swap

Since most of the members at The Sassy Sisters in Sales don’t live close together and are friends and business associates only through the internet, we devised a new form of office cookie swap.

Instead of each sister bringing her favorite cookie to the office and taking some from other sisters, we are sharing our favorite product and our businesses with each other.

Each participating sister will leave her cookie here on the blog for all to sample, then she’ll take everyone else’s cookie and post it on her own blog or to her own list of viewers.

Want to get in on this and other fun events? Join The Sassy Sisters in Sales today!

Large Craft Shows

So, I've learned a very important lesson over the last week. Large craft shows are not always money makers! KK Originals and Momma Goddess Treasures took the leap for a chance to show their jewelry skills and possibly make some money for the holiday season. Unfortunately, the promoter did not "saturate the market with advertising" as promised, so we did not have a very large attendance. The venue was huge and in a lovely place, the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, but the crowds were not available.

So, lessons learned: 1) don't believe everything a promoter tells you; 2) make the most of the opportunity--we did network and met some wonderful people; and 3) don't be discouraged.

We have gotten back into our studios and are continuing to create more one-of-a-kind items and treasures and we will continue to feel the value of making an awesome piece of jewelry for the lucky consumer that does find us.

We did take some pieces to the Art Showcase in Greeley for the Holly Days display and welcome you to contact us through the internet as well.

Colorado Eagles Reach for 150 Wins!

The ground is covered with snow and the temperature is dropping in Colorado, but there is no chill in the air in the Budweiser Event Center. Tonight the Colorado Eagles will face their first game against their rivals from Rapid City.

Rapid City is a new team to the Central Hockey League with this being their second season; however, they are already tied for first place in the Northern Conference and the Eagles want to take that spot away from the Rush, in addition to achieving the goal of 150 wins at the BEC in regular season play.

The Eagles’ top performer from seasons past, Greg Pankewicz, now retired and behind the bench as Assistant Coach for the team will no longer be able to lead the team from the ice. This role has been delegated to the new captain of the team, Riley Nelson, who recorded 500 game points while playing with the Eagles last Friday night.

Andrew Penner remains between the pipes as the Eagles’ goalie, but another Penner has been added to the squad. Alex Penner, Andrew’s brother, is now wearing an Eagles’ jersey and will be another enforcer for the team. Alex has shown no fear in our first three games and was actually ejected from the game last Saturday night with a game misconduct for secondary fighting. This could prove to be an exciting year for the Eagles’ fans.

The Eagles continue to sell out each regular season game and season six promises to be another one of those years. Tempers will flare, goals will be scored, fans will be on their feet, and dreams will continue to flourish at the Budweiser Event Center.

Snow Day!!

We have SNOW!!! It is a lovely white day. The snow started last night and has continued all day. Just soft and peaceful flakes drifting down the entire day. Our little dogs had great fun playing in it and would run back in to warm up on Momma's lap. Lucy is a little black yorkie-poo and she was covered with the snow. Now, Ellie is an elegant little white poodle and a little more mature. She is a little lady and tried not to get so wet. When the squirrels stuck their little heads out to tease the dogs, we had a little frenzy in the snow, but for the most part it was out and back in to warm up.

Cold and snowy weather made it a perfect day for a crockpot full of stew. The house smells yummy and we didn't have to leave for any reason. That was the nice part.

Now if I would have to go out in this I have found a wonderful little addition to my wardrobe that I don't think I can live without. Picture this on a snowy day:
This is called Butterscotch Ripple Knitted Wrap in Sweet Caramel, Creamy and Chocolate Brown and is a creation of Fashion Touch, an especially nice Etsy shop. Be sure you browse her shop before it gets too cold in your area! She is a member of Unique Women in Business and will treat you well! Tell her I sent you!

In the meantime, stay warm and enjoy a little comfort food! Okay back to my studio . . . many treasures to create.

Busy Little Bee!!

We are headed into the holiday buying season and I believe I have set some high goals for myself. I have said yes to some upcoming art and craft shows while not fully realizing how many items I should truly have prepared. Why, I'm not even SURE how many I should have ready.

Kathy Kaberline, of KK Originals, and I will be in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center for four days in November. We have been told that 30,000 people walk through this event each day! Okay, now I'm starting to realize that I better make a schedule for my time in the studio. I will honestly try to produce two pieces a day, but I want to maintain quality and uniqueness as I try to accomplish this task.

After seeing the movie Julie and Julia, I just hope this doesn't end up in a melt down like she had. To prove that I have been an avid creator I will post a couple of my newest pieces here for your comments. Honesty please.

Remember, these items are available on my websites, don't even feel bad about lowering my inventory one little bit; if you love something, snatch it up soon!!!

I Love Hockey!!!

Hockey season started last night for our Colorado Eagles!! I love opening night! Everyone in the crowd is so happy to be back; we have new players to scope out and learn their moves; the crispness of Fall is in the air; and we have fireworks as the boys are introduced!! It is quite a production and adds to the excitement!

Last night Panks retired and that was quite an emotional thing for so many of us. I wear his jersey with pride to all my games--home or away--and I will continue to do so. His number was retired and is now the first ever to hang in the Budweiser Event Center. He will not be leaving us though because he has joined the coaching staff. So now we all look forward to keeping our eye on him on the bench in an entirely different manner.

Wonder how long before he has one of Coach Stewies' famous yard sales??? That's when the coach lets the ref know that he is not so happy with the call and proceeds to throw all the hockey sticks, water bottles, whatever he can get his hands on out onto the ice!! I remember the first time I witnessed this event and WOW! did it get the crowd stirred up! Of course, he watched the rest of the game from the locker room, but we always go on to win those games. Funny how that works, isn't it?!

That old saying is so true: Life Begins When the Puck Drops!!!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

American Cancer Society Guidelines for the Early Detection of Cancer

The following cancer screening guidelines are recommended for those people at average risk for cancer (unless otherwise specified) and without any specific symptoms.

People who are at increased risk for certain cancers may need to follow a different screening schedule, such as starting at an earlier age or being screened more often. Those with symptoms that could be related to cancer should see their doctor right away.

Cancer-related checkup

For people aged 20 or older having periodic health exams, a cancer-related checkup should include health counseling, and depending on a person's age and gender, might include exams for cancers of the thyroid, oral cavity, skin, lymph nodes, testes, and ovaries, as well as for some non-malignant (non-cancerous) diseases.

Special tests for certain cancer sites are recommended as outlined below.

Breast cancer

  • Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health.
  • Clinical breast exam (CBE) should be part of a periodic health exam, about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over.
  • Women should know how their breasts normally feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care providers. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.
  • Women at high risk (greater than 20% lifetime risk) should get an MRI and a mammogram every year. Women at moderately increased risk (15% to 20% lifetime risk) should talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of adding MRI screening to their yearly mammogram. Yearly MRI screening is not recommended for women whose lifetime risk of breast cancer is less than 15%.
For more detailed information visit The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org

This disease is such an important to issue to both men and women. Let's all THINK PINK this month and encourage our loved ones to have their appropriate screening.

Let me know when you have your mammogram and I'll send you a Pink bag for your use. These bags are terrific for taking to the grocery store to haul home your healthy items without all those plastic bags!!!

I also have these cute little pink earrings with hearts in my shop! Give them a look and remember to think pink this month!

Last Day of Nice Weather!

Today was the last day of nice weather here in Colorado--for a few days that is--and I spent most of it in the studio. I have some wild ideas spinning around in my head and I must create before things get lost in the proverbial fog. I do try to sketch ideas out when I can't be in the studio, but sometimes pieces just call to me.

So, today I worked on a lovely piece with antique brass, copper, gold, and gunmetal chains. Then I added some hand-painted silk to give it some warmth. Oh, I must admit it is turning out to be spectacular! I will try to take some photos, but there are so many beads calling me I'm not sure when I can stop long enough to snap the shots!!

I did make a few sample earrings for one of my brides for her bridesmaids and I believe she has made all her selections, so that will keep me busy for awhile as well.

I have been so busy in my little studio creating new treasures in preparation for the upcoming weekend.

First of all, I will be at the Whimmydiddle in Scott City, Kansas for the day! I am truly excited to meet some new people and perhaps see a few of the ones I met in Garden City. They are truly a spectacular group of people and I hope I can thrill them with a few new pieces.

Second, don't forget the Business Women's Expo located right here in the comfort of your own home! Yes, check out the blogs of all the creative women who have prepared a night of shopping and excitement from your own little nest. It has been rather cool in Colorado these past few days. We even had a little snow in Loveland this afternoon.

See you this weekend--either in person, or on the web!! Mention this blog and receive FREE SHIPPING!

Halloween is Right Around the Corner!

I love Halloween. It has always been one of my favorite holidays. We would always decorate the house so we could have a party or at least make Halloween night a festive occasion. Tara didn't like candy so she always dressed up just to answer the door. Of course, so did her mother! I love to dress up. We always made homemade treats or tried to find fun items to make sure the goblins would return year after year.

So, this year, the girls are gone to find their own lives in Florida and our tradition must continue! So look what I found for our little dogs! These are adorable; and what well dressed dog doesn't wear the appropriate apparel for the holiday? Check out this site (crazyforcollars.etsy.com): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30557470

The girls will be going to the groomer and will don their new attire; and of course, I'll get a cute picture for you.

In the meantime, I better start decorating the house and thinking about making those popcorn balls!

Did you say Whimmy Diddle?

Yes, I said it, Whimmydiddle! I am working hard to replenish my treasures so I have some wonderful items for the Whimmydiddle in Scott City. Here's a little blurb I found about it:

When: Sept. 26, 2009

Where: Scott City Park, Scott City

What is it: One of the most popular arts and crafts festivals of the year also has one of the most unique names — Whimmydiddle. The festival, named after an Appalachian wooden toy that whirls around with the wind, started in 1972 and has been going strong ever since. Vendors show off handmade crafts, clothing, furniture, jewelry, pottery and more. Money raised through the event is used by the Alpha Omega Sorority in Scott City, a local chapter of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, a national philanthropic organization for women.

I look forward to seeing you there and if you mention this blogspot I will give you a 10% discount on your purchases. Can't wait to see you!!

Texture Art Class

Yesterday was an entire day of painting with texture--we mixed sand into our paint and had a great time. We also added fiber, wire and beads after the base picture was in place. It was an interesting day. We twisted the wire and fiber using a drill! The work is still drying and I will post a picture of it when I can take one in the afternoon light. I love learning new techniques and enjoy sharing them with others.

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Yesterday I attended a bead and gem show in Denver and I cannot begin to tell you how much fun it was . . . sparkly stuff everywhere!!! I will let you know when I have some pictures ready for viewing.

In the meantime, I've been learning some new wire techniques and I will be posting those soon. Lovely work with copper wire and silver wire. You will LOVE it!

The last two days I've spent in classes learning new jewelry making techniques. I am so excited to share these new methods with everyone. I will get to work and start posting some new treasures. I've been coiling and wrapping, now all kind of new ideas are swirling around in my brain!!!

Art Class Day

I had an awesome day today--spent it in an art class. Made a fiber and copper weaved piece of art! It was a satisfying day working with the artist Kathy Keberlein and learning new techniques. She is an exceptional artist and works with many mediums. I'll post a picture of it later.

Whirlwind Day!

Literally, it has been a whirlwind day (the wind has been gusting all day) and I've been running around like a crazy person. Had to take the dogs to the groomer first thing in the morning and then made it home in time to ship a couple of sales! Yahoo! The new bookmarks have been popular--check them out and tell me what you think. I better make a few more just in case.

Picked up the beautiful pooches and then posted more items on my etsy site -- www.mommagoddess.etsy.com. Now, it's Friday night and I believe it is time to kick back and put my feet up for a breather! Have a lovely night and keep creating!

Beautiful Day in Colorado

The Momma Goddess has been busy photographing and uploading her new treasures. I've been making bookmarks and phone charms. Now who in their right mind will carry around a phone that doesn't make a statement? Really, that's what I thought as well! Some sparkle and glamour is important to all goddesses.

It truly has been a lovely day here in Colorado--sunny and cool. The Aspen have their leaves on now and the sound is lovely when a little breeze rustles through them. Such a relaxing way to spend a day!

Happy Birthday to Jenny Becker!!! My Tara Dawn's BFF! Have a fun-filled day Jenny!

A Beautiful Day for Creating a Dream!!

My lifelong dream to create art is finally coming to fruition. I'm staying home to follow my passion of creating treasures and have started a website in which to share these treasures with the world. www.mommagoddesstreasures.com is a dream come true. Each day brings new ideas and challenges to my passion. Yesterday I created bookmarks and phone charms that will enchant everyone. There is even one for Denver Bronco fans! ;0
