The Comic Con Wedding

Have you ever heard of the Comic Con Convention? Well, I must admit that I had heard snippets about it, but didn't really check in to it since I thought I wasn't in to that kind of stuff.  

My cousin, Pammie's daughter, Alicia and her fiance, Joel, are not only in to it, but they are an avid comic couple.  They actually have the artistic talent to draw and write their own comic adventures.  

So when they decided on their wedding reception date, they also decided to embrace the entire comic con theme.  Hmmmmm, okay, I say (being the hip cousin that I am), I can make your wedding jewelry around this theme. 

Luckily, Alicia had decided on Lime Green and Purple as her primary colors for the big day. 

She picked out a strapless, tea length, white gown and wanted a lime green sash for it.  No problem, I can do this.  I have been making sashes for other brides in the traditional ivory and white, so this should be a snap, right?  

Honestly, I found all the supplies I wanted/needed and started to design.  I needed to keep her age in mind and her choice of theme.  Anyone who knows me would understand she had me when she mentioned 'Star Wars' since it is one of my favorite movies and I probably have the lines memorized I have seen it so many times.

I came up with the sash utilizing a method of melting satin and creating some flowers to tie everything together.  Let me know what you think.

 Oh, yes, I liked the way it turned out.  Okay, now I'm on a roll so I made her garter along the same theme.

So, the hard part was finished then I created a necklace with lime green, purple, and clear crystals.  I needed to keep in mind that this pretty little bride has some awesome ink on her body so I tied it all together with a black sparkling heart as a center pendant.

While I was creating I made a fascinator for her hair with white feathers, lime green and purple crystals, and topped it off with a lime green feather compliments of Pretty Bird, the Orange-winged Amazon.  She didn't mind, she dropped it any way.  I just risked a few fingers grabbing it out of the cage while it was still clean!

The cake was a combination of the Darth Vader helmet with a Storm Trooper helmet on top--of course, Hans and Princess Leia were on the very top!

  
Oh, I was truly in my element now!  No, I won't be growing up soon, so just give it up.  

The couple endured the agony of cutting the cake and deciding how to feed each other.  They decided on forks--how gentile was that?!?  I do not like it when the bride and groom smears cake on their new spouse's face, so this was awesome to me.

We had a lovely time getting to see friends and family from near and far while we celebrated the union of this adorable couple.

We got a few family pictures amidst the festivities (no, none of me, although I did clean up well).

What's a Leg Without a Garter?

The final touch for any wedding is the garter for the lovely leg of the bride.  There will be plenty of fun at the reception when it comes time to remove said garter and throw it to the crowd.  Some grooms are shy and will gently remove the garter with their hands, trying to be as gentlemanly as possible; while others will use their teeth to grasp and remove the lovingly worn garter.  Either way, it was fun to make some garters for the upcoming nuptials.  My creations thus far:

Okay, those are her three choices for this wedding.  She will be wearing her white gown with grape heels, I love her style!!

And finally, one to throw!  The brides are now wanting to hang on to the keepsake garter so they request a second one to throw.  A little smaller so her leg isn't completely full as she walks down the aisle.

Have we forgotten anything?  Oh, surely so, but it won't be missed if we did.  Perhaps after the big event we will have pictures to show the items in action!

Did Someone Say Hair Bling??

One of the important little decisions a bride must make is how to wear her hair.  She wants to look absolutely stunning for the day and be able to move  and have fun as well.  Should she wear it up?  Should she wear it down?  How will the veil fit?  Will there be a veil?  What about the reception--after the veil comes off??  So many questions to answer.  Most brides will meet with the hair dresser far in advance of the big day for a trial run.  Some take their veil, some show up with nothing, and others will appear with a handful of bling to be utilized in some manner.

I have had several orders for the big day bling.   Here are a couple items from two different brides:

Sparkles and Pearls on hair pins to be scattered throughout her hair.

Small delicate comb with crystals and pearls for a delicate touch.

One chose the larger comb to fasten to the top of her veil.

While one chose a comb with feathers attached to give her a touch of drama!

Each bride has a different and unique vision for her special day and I'm only too happy to help them achieve that perfect vision.

Busy Little Bee!!

We are headed into the holiday buying season and I believe I have set some high goals for myself. I have said yes to some upcoming art and craft shows while not fully realizing how many items I should truly have prepared. Why, I'm not even SURE how many I should have ready.

Kathy Kaberline, of KK Originals, and I will be in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center for four days in November. We have been told that 30,000 people walk through this event each day! Okay, now I'm starting to realize that I better make a schedule for my time in the studio. I will honestly try to produce two pieces a day, but I want to maintain quality and uniqueness as I try to accomplish this task.

After seeing the movie Julie and Julia, I just hope this doesn't end up in a melt down like she had. To prove that I have been an avid creator I will post a couple of my newest pieces here for your comments. Honesty please.
